CHAIR: Gaye Strudwick
I arrived in Nansledan around five years ago to be closer to my son and his family.
I originally trained as a classical dancer in my youth and worked abroad for several years before returning to England and retraining as a Drama in Education teacher. Prior to coming to Cornwall I lived in North Somerset for over thirty years where I was teacher at a large Secondary School. I held a variety of roles within the school, finally ending my teaching career as Assistant Head Teacher with responsibility for Child Welfare.
I was also involved with various Child Protection committees within the authority working closely with the full range of support agencies.
I feel fortunate to have ‘found’ Nansledan and look forward to supporting the community.
EVENTS : Theresa Ferguson
Originally from Glasgow I moved to England over 30 years ago, working in London as a Police Officer. I retired in 2015 after completing 30 years Police service and moved to Newquay in 2017.
I have lived in Nansledan now for just short of 7 years. I consider myself to be very outgoing, and active and you will see me out and about walking my dog, Cassie.
I class myself as a positive person and like to get involved in bringing people together as I am a firm believer that if people are happy then it makes for a nice living environment and neighbourhood.Hopefully I can continue to bring fun ideas and support the NCA in whatever way I can.
I am looking for new fresh ideas to keep Nansledan a fun filled place to live, so if you see me out and about and have an idea, stop me, and have a chat.
TREASURER : William Benson
Born West coast of Scotland. Married to Margaret. Servant to our dog Skye. My latest hobby is finding researching and restoring metal royal warrants.
I have 35 years' experience in Retail and Loss Prevention management, finishing my full-time career as a Dental Practice Manager for nine years. Additionally, I served as a Pension Board Trustee member for a national High street company. I decided to join the NCA committee as I wish to put something back into the community I now live in.
COMMITTEE MEMBER: Emelia Dabrowski
I have lived in Nansledan with my family for over a year now, and we love it. My interests are music, art, and my local community.
I hope to help promote, and combine, all of these things within the committee.
SECTRETARY: Paula Payne
Originally from Swindon I relocated to Newquay with my husband and parents in 1978 having given up teaching to run a B&B!! As my children came along and grew up, I returned to teaching and have taught in both Treviglas and Tretheras schools. I spent the last 20 years, before retiring in 2011, working in the Maths department at Newquay Tretherras, during which time I held the position of Temporary Head of Department and was a teacher Governor.
I have always been very involved in the community mostly through involvement in the varied activities of my family. I sat on the Newquay 1900 Week committee for several years both as a committee member and Chairperson. I have been a Guide Leader for nearly 30 years running local groups ranging in age from 5-25 years and have held county level positions including PR Advisor. I have helped with everything from Surf Life Saving and Scouting, playgroups and schools to Dance groups and Panto. I moved to Nansledan in 2021.
I was familiar with the location as my eldest son and his family have lived here since 2017. The sense of community was one of the main draws to me whilst house hunting. Having taken time out to settle into my new home and lifestyle changes I feel that now is a good time to get more involved in the community. My main area of interest is for the younger people in Nansledan making sure that their voices are heard.
